Penance? Omega 3s? Whatever the reason – fish is delicious

Religion or health? Whatever the reason….eat fish! It tastes great.

I was raised in a Catholic family and every Lent, the 40 days that lead up to Easter Sunday (Christian holy day), we would be sure to give up meat on Fridays (a form of sacrifice). Meal time consisted of fish or Easter bun and cheese.  Yesterday was the first Friday of Lent and thoughts about this tradition came to mind. In truth, I haven’t practiced this tradition in a long time. I do however, still eat fish at least once a week, but for health reasons.

Eating red snapper, for example, “may help lower your risk for heart disease and dementia.” Red snapper and tilapia also have vitamins b12 and b6, phosphorous, selenium and potassium.
